Blogger has started using Country Specific URLs and some of you might have already noticed it. The change has been rolled out in India.If you are from India try visiting any BlogSpot URL and you will be redirected to the country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD). For example if you visit any page on http://bloggerindraft.blogspot.com from India , you will be redirected to the country specific page on http://bloggerindraft.blogspot.in . Similarly if you visit any other ccTLDs from India, you will be redirected to the Indian TLD.

This was a query that I got over email and I when I saw her implement it on her blog, it looked cool and I thought this might be useful for others as well. This won't look that great with Blogger's Label Cloud. So this trick is only for those who use the list view in the Label Gadget. To do this, you will have to modify your Label Gadget with some custom code. You will have to add a small code snippet for each label of yours.

Threaded Comments For Blogger

Blogger has just announced the threaded commenting feature and you might have already seen it on your Blog if you are using a default Blogger Template. If you are using your own custom Template, then you will have to tweak your template for the threaded comments to appear.

This is how the Threaded Comments will look like (Screen shot taken form the Official Blogger Buzz Blog)

How to get the Threaded Comments ?

1. Make sure that you have enabled Comment Feeds

2. Use the Embedded Comment Form.

3. Now If you are not seeing the Threaded Comments, then it means that you have a customized template.

There are different methods to fix this. But before doing any of those download a backup of your Template.

On the Old UI, you can get a backup at option in Design > Edit HTML > Download Full Template

If you are using the New UI, then you can find the same at Template > Backup/Restore (Right Side) > Download full Template

Tweaks to get the Threaded Comments:

1. The simplest method is to reset each of your Widgets to default. Doing this will revert back any customization which you or the template designer has made to the Widgets.

You can reset the widgets by going to the Edit HTML page, and clicking on the link which says "Revert widget templates to default" . If you tried this and lost your Customizations, you can always get them back by re-uploading your Template using the Backup/Restore option

2. If you don't want to reset the widget templates, then you will have to manually Edit your template.

Find each occurrence of this snippet

<b:include data='post' name='comments'/>

and replace it with

<b:if cond='data:post.showThreadedComments'> <b:include data='post' name='threaded_comments'/> <b:else/> <b:include data='post' name='comments'/> </b:if>

and you should probably see the threaded view on your blog. If that too doesn't help leave a comment here and we will try to debug it together :-)

Google Analytics in Blogger

Blogger has added a new option to easily integrate Google Analytics with your Blog.

To Add your Google Analytics Tracking code, you just need to specify your Google Analytics Account number in your Blogger Dashboard. To do that Go to Settings > Other and fill up the "Google Analytics Account number" field, Once done Save the Settings. Now Blogger will automatically add the analytics tracking code to your blog(even on the mobile version).

Better Feed Control on Blogger

Till now Blogger used to have two Feed Control Options, a Short Feed or a Full Feed. The short feed, as the name suggests contains a short version of your post with HTML and images stripped off. Blogger allows you to upload your own videos via the Blogger Post Editor. It also allows you to embed YouTube videos into your posts(by copy pasting the YouTube embed code into your post editor). Now Blogger has made this process even more simpler by providing a better interface for adding YouTube videos.

This YouTube integration is available only in the updated Post Editor. So if you are still using the old editor, it's a good time for an upgrade.
